On 17.07.2021, the Firm’s Managing Partner, Edward Kuruvilla, moderated an event organised by the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee Civil Practice & Court Liaison Committee titled “The New Normal: Experiences, Insights and Tips from the Other Side of the Courtroom”.
The Speakers for the event were:- (1) Justice of the Federal Court, Y.A. Dato’ Sri Hasnah Binti Dato’ Mohammed Hashim; (2) Justice of the Court of Appeal, Y.A. Tuan Darryl Goon Siew Chye; (3) Justice of the High Court, Y.A. Datuk Wong Kian Kheong; and (4) Judicial Commissioner of the High Court, Y.A. Puan Liza Chan Sow Keng (hereafter “the Speakers”).
During the early session, the Speakers generously shared with participants their experience from “the other side of the Courtroom” by providing insights into how the Malaysian Judiciary has adapted to case managing matters online as well as conducting online hearings/trials remotely during the pandemic.
After concluding their presentations, the Speakers spent almost an hour taking questions from some of the 610 participants in attendance. In this part of the session, the Speakers also had an opportunity to share their views on how they foresee legal practice evolving beyond the pandemic.
